Senior Researcher on hydrogen geopolitics, global markets, and strategies
Canada Research Chair in Clean Hydrogen
With over a decade of global hydrogen experience and more than 120 field research missions across 45 territories — from Antarctica to China — Mikaa now serves as Senior Researcher on hydrogen geopolitics, global markets, and strategies at the Canada Research Chair in Clean Hydrogen (Hydrogen Research Institute – University of Québec at Trois-Rivières). He also lectures on global hydrogen supply chains and policy at IFP School (Paris) and on the climate–energy–security nexus at the French War College.
In 2019, Mikaa BLUGEON-MERED created the world’s first postgraduate course dedicated to the geopolitics of hydrogen, which he has since delivered at Sciences Po, HEC Paris, UM6P Rabat, among other leading universities. In 2022 and 2024, he developed the Hydrogen Policy Radar and the Natural Hydrogen Policy Radar, tracking national hydrogen strategies and regulations across 120+ and 30+ countries respectively.
In 2025, he founded Hydrogen Mosaic — a purpose-driven pedagogical innovation studio creating serious games, board games, card games, and children’s books to broaden access to clean hydrogen knowledge beyond expert circles. He also co-founded the International Natural Hydrogen Alliance — the largest institutional coalition focused on capacity-building for geologic and geogenic hydrogen resources — launched for COP30.
Mikaa advises governments on national hydrogen strategies and multi-billion-dollar clean urban development projects. He serves on the board of the Canadian Hydrogen Safety Centre (CH2SC), the executive board of the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), and as co-chair of both the World Bank’s Hydrogen for Development policy, regulations, and institutional capacity workstream and CertifHy’s steering committee. He also sits on the advisory boards of several French hydrogen scale-ups expanding internationally.
An award-winning author, global public speaker, and regular media contributor, Mikaa’s upcoming books — Quo Vadis, Clean Hydrogen? and Eugene, the Hydrogen Moose — will be published in 2026.
