About the Speaker

Ruut-Maaria Rissanen, M.Sc. (Tech.)/MBA,  is the director for regional planning at the Council of Tampere Region. The Council of Tampere Region has a key role in strategic planning as well as overseeing the region's interests.

Rissanen has a long and versatile background in developing and researching land use. In her role as the director of regional planning she focuses on coordinating the various needs of different stakeholders from residents to large companies as well as the distinct needs of different topics from energy to nature loss.

Large-enough sites and the availability of utility services are among the key requirements for energy intensive industries when making location decisions. Sufficient availability of electrical power and freshwater are crucial inputs to many processes, while the utilization of excess heat in local district heating network is an asset.
