About the Speaker

Oliver Hussey is the Head of ICT at Business Tampere. A graduate of University of Limerick, Ireland in Electronic Engineering, Mr Hussey has 28 years experience working mostly in Business Development roles in high-tech companies across 6 countries. Business Tampere is the regional economic development and investment promotion agency for Tampere city region in Finland. Since joining in 2015, Mr. Hussey has established the Tampere Imaging Ecosystem, Tampere Automotive Cluster and System on Chip design cluster. His main role is foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, bringing companies and new jobs to the region, leveraging strong ecosystems to do so, with expert talent availability usually the compelling event. So far, he’s successfully helped 20+ companies establish research and development sites in Tampere, including firms such as Microsoft, Axon, Flock Safety. Nowadays, he’s also active in attracting investments from abroad also related to large scale production and manufacturing facilities.

Expectations for industrial site readiness: the case of Tampere region

Large-enough sites and the availability of utility services are among the key requirements for energy intensive industries when making location decisions. Sufficient availability of electrical power and freshwater are crucial inputs to many processes, while the utilization of excess heat in local district heating network is an asset.
