About the Speaker

Dr. Rainer Küngas, CTO at Stargate Hydrogen, brings over 15 years of expertise in fuel cells and hydrogen electrolysers. A leading voice in the field, he authored an invited review in Science magazine and is the inventor on 20 patent applications spanning electrochemical technologies. Holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Fulbright scholar, and continues to drive innovation at the forefront of green hydrogen production.

Stargate Hydrogen: high-efficiency alkaline electrolysers that can survive the Finnish winter

Stargate Hydrogen has recently deployed its Gateway series electrolyser at Fortum's Kalla Test Centre near Loviisa. The unit produced its first hydrogen in December 2025. The presentation will provide an overview of recent developments at Stargate Hydrogen, including how Stargate systems are designed to cope with the Nordic winter conditions.
